EVENTS AND FUNDRAISING
Crucial to the richness of our
program is the strong sense of community Grace Neighborhood Nursery
School (GNNS) maintains with the
families of its students -- past and present. There are numerous family
activities and monthly parent advisory board meetings (see
Parent Advisory Board link) where you and your
ideas are welcome. Parent volunteers for a variety of projects are
needed and encouraged.Communication
about events and fundraising is distributed to parents through
all-school and classroom newsletters.

VOLUNTEER
OPPORTUNITIES
Parents are always welcome in GNNS
classrooms. We do, however, like to schedule visits so that we do not
have too many adults in our room at once. Parents my participate or
observe. It is helpful to us to know what your goals are when visiting
the classroom. If you would like to participate there are many
opportunities available. The following is a list of suggestions. We are
certainly open to other suggestions as well. Just let us know.

New Year traditions.
Reading
Read to children who are interested during free choice time. You may
choose a book from our shelves or you may bring in a book of your own
choosing that is age-appropriate. If you bring in a book, please clear
it with one of the teachers.
Writing
Write down children's stories. Children enjoy having their stories in
written form. It helps them learn the connection between the spoken and
written word. We will send a copy of theses stories home to parents to
help them learn what their child is doing and thinking.
Projects
Direct an art, cooking, or science project with a small group of
children, or assist a teacher with a project that is planned.
Field trips
We often need additional adults for field trips, including walks to
Triangle Park.
Room maintenance
Put up new bulletin boards and put away old bulletin boards, file books,
clean toys, and help with other tasks that keep up the appearance and
cleanliness of the room.
No specific task
Help wandering children find something he/she would like to do. Observe
children playing and write down their conversations and the context in
which they occur. Assist children who need supplies or need help to
succeed.
